Moana, the upcoming feature film from Walt Disney Animation Studios, has been widely promoted and debated on social media. A key area of criticism has centered on how Disney imagines the Pacific. In the video below group of Auckland University Students, Tuākana Arts Mentors, and Scholars share a variety of views in response to trailers of Disney's Moana. They push beyond them in the Spirit of Maui, working with the global interest for mainstream pop-culture and media, in order to share some complex Indigenous perspectives and stories of Moana.
