We are delighted to announce our two keynote speakers for our Engaging Anthropology conference this year.
Leali‘ifano Dr Albert Refiti is an anthropologist and architect, with deep and applied expertise in indigenous spatial, cosmological, and environment knowledges, and notions of place and citizenship in the Pacific diaspora (read more here: https://academics.aut.ac.nz/albert.refiti). He is the Primary Investigator for the Vā Moana research cluster (https://www.vamoana.org/).
Christine Helliwell is an Emeritus Professor at the Australian National University, with 40 years fieldwork experience among the Dayak in Borneo, focusing on gender, sociality and personhood. She has received international acclaim for a recent book – written for a general audience – which brings to light the roles of indigenous Dayak peoples in an Allied secret operation in Borneo during World War II (read more here https://researchers.anu.edu.au/researchers/helliwell-cj).
We look forward to seeing the different insights into the theme of the conference that each of these keynotes will bring.
As a reminder, our call for papers is open until 28 July so if you would like to participate in the conference please get in touch with the conference organising committee via email (engaginganthropology2023@otago.ac.nz ).
